Laventure

Laventure is a small village situated in the North-East of Mauritius in the District of Flacq.
Petite Retraite, Amaury, Grande Retraite, Bois D’oiseau, Plaine Des Roches are places surrounding the village.
It has a population of about 4000 people.
Over the years, the village has emerged as a peaceful and respectable living place.
Poverty rate is extremely low, quasi inexistent and most inhabitants have progressed financially with agriculture. 2 out of 1 families still possess a sugar cane plantation. Majority of people are now dependent on jobs in both the public and private sectors leaving lesser residents earning their living as labourers or farmers. People who do not pursue tertiary studies earn their living in the booming hotel or construction sector. Therefore, the residents enjoy a decent standard of living. The most interesting thing about this village is that all the inhabitants are all Hindus. The most widely spoken languages in this village are Bhojpuri and Creole. Laventure has its own government school, community health centre, social welfare centre, village hall, and has its football playground.
The Village has one of the ancient Hindu temple which was established in 1881 and a unique Gandhi Bhawan where Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually with great fervour. The village celebrates all Hindu festivals with great pomp and even Christmas is very popular there. It always organises activities in many occasions and for all age groups like picnics for elders, fun tours for students during holidays, football, volleyball, carom and dominoes tournaments between local teams, cultural programs for different occasions and annual Christmas party. For leisure, people enjoy themselves at the game house, village hall, social welfare centre, football and volleyball playgrounds and there are facilities such as video clubs, shops, restaurants and bars. There is almost everything that one needs to lead a happy life at Laventure.
May be this village is unknown to many people but it a very nice village, very rich in culture and of good people.
