Riviere du Rempart

Rivière Du Rempart is a district located in the North-East of Mauritius and it is the biggest town is the tourist resort of Grand Bay. Its name is given by the river Rivière Du Rempart and its capital is Mapou . The river Rivière Du Rempart is the outflow of La Nicolière and flows northeast to reach the Indian Ocean north of Poste de Flacq. Rivière du Rempart is linked by two roads and is located of North-East Port Louis and north of Grand Port. It comprises many villages such as Goodlands, Cap Malheureux, Grand Gaube, Belle vue Maurel.
Moreover, it is reputed for its coastal scenic view such as Cap Malheureux and Grand Gaube. There are also beautiful villages in the coastal area like Poudre d'Or Village, Poudre d'Or Hamlet and much more. It also comprises some touristic places like Plaine des Papayes and Antoinette, where the first indentured labourers from India and settled.
The village of Goodlands is reputed for its shopping centre and the prices of goods there are much lower than those compared to the shopping centre of the cities. It is a very busy place especially on the weekends, when local people gather to buy the goods. Goodlands has a market which trades a few times a week. Nearby there is the coastal village of Grand Gaube which is initially a small fishing village but, however, it now boasts the presence of a small golf course, three hotels and a very friendly atmosphere for people visiting the village.
Cap Malheureux is located at the northern tip of Mauritius. It is still a small fishing village and thereby you can find a Church with a red roof which is often photographed.
Being a very peaceful and tranquil place, this is a good place to get away from it all. From Cap Malheureux, you can see a few of the other island such as The Coin de Mire, Ile Ronde, Ile aux Serpents and Ile Plate. These islands are declared as nature reserves that are prohibited to the public. These small islands have some rare flora. The Coin de Mire is the nearest island to the northern coastline and Ile Plate which is famous for its lighthouse.
